Depression and Medical Conditions

Depression is commonly related to osteoporosis, sleep problems, schizophrenia, personality disorders, eating disorders, cognitive disorders, learning disorders, behavior disorders, sexual disorders, psychotic disorders, anxiety disorders and premenstrual dysphonic disorder or PMDD.

Stress and Depression as Accelerators

Stress weakens the immune system and acts to accelerate the progression of many medical conditions. Depression is also known to speed the progression of many illnesses.

Heart disease, cancer, and HIV are among the illnesses that have been shown to progress faster in patients with increased levels of stress and depression, with higher resulting degrees of mortality.

Vicious Circle: Illness-Caused Stress, Anxiety, Depression and Trauma

Most illness cause stress and anxiety, and many serious illnesses are strongly associated with depression and trauma.

Some serious illnesses that can cause these conditions and are also accelerated by these conditions.

For example, stress causes inflammation that can trigger and accelerate cancer. Getting cancer causes stress, anxiety, and trauma that in turn can accelerate the cancer progression, weaken the immune system, and significantly  increase the chances of death.

A similar 'vicious circle' can be seen in heart disease, HIV and other life threatening illness.

CAN JOYGYM THERAPY SLOW CANCER?

More than 80% of cancer deaths are caused by metastases. Formation of metastases is favored by both reduced numbers of immune cells in the bloodstream and impaired oxygen transport into tissues.

High stress levels reduce immune function. Many international studies confirm that laughter therapy can significantly boost immune cell production and vitality.

Laughter therapy dramatically boosts blood circulation and oxygenization naturally.

Research is required to establish whether increased immune cell production and delivery of oxygen to tumors can slow or counter metastasis.

THERAPY REGIME

JOYGYM™ Cancer Coaching can be provided for people living with cancer individually or in groups depending on patient preference, energy levels and mobility.

Self practice training can be provided, but practice within a group of family, friends and others is easier to maintain.

FAMILY COACHING

Cancer Coaching differs from conventional therapies in that we strongly recommend the entire family and others close to the patient participate in therapy, and are trained to deliver therapy.

The burden of cancer spreads beyond the patient to include family members (especially spouse, partner, children, parents and siblings) close friends, caregivers, and others close to the patient.

JOYGYM therapy helps all members of this group  to resolve related stress, anxiety and depression and allows them to become part of an ongoing peer-to-peer therapy delivery process.

Family therapy brings group members closer together in happiness and mutual support and provides the patient with the benefits of daily therapy without ongoing costs.

SUPPORT GROUP COACHING

Coaching cancer support groups provides therapy in a setting of peers that is often comforting to patients. If possible we recommend that family members be included in therapy sessions.

In support groups that meet less than five times a week we recommend that meetings be used to introduce the therapy and to train participants in regular self-therapy.

CANCER COACHING IN CLINICS

Laughter therapy is widely offered in USA cancer clinics, often during chemotherapy visits.

We are ready to provide cancer coaching services in clinics, but prefer to train clinic staff to deliver the therapy. This provides powerful psychosocial support for clinic staff and can improve productivity and the quality of care offered while providing patients with a happier environment  and the benefits of daily JOYGYM cancer coaching.
