Results
Results shown here are for healthcare workers
working in one of the most stressful jobs known - providing
healthcare services to dying adults and children.
They are subjected to high levels of daily stress and
compassion fatigue. Before the program most were suffering
from depression and burnout.
How we Measured
Results were measured over a six month period using
a combination of self report surveys, psychometric
measures, and personal and management interviews
conducted by JOYGYM HappyMetrics before the program,
then repeated after 2 weeks, 2 months, 4 months and
6 months.
Further results were measured by a leading
independent test house using the Bar-On Emotional
Intelligence scale before the program, then repeated
after 2 months and 6 months.
Happiness

Significant increases in happiness, hope and
joy are seen in self-report surveys. FEQ measures show
increased happiness and decreased unhappiness.

Bar-On Emotional Intelligence measures
confirm dramatic increases in general mood, optimism and
happiness.

Interviews confirmed dramatic increases in
stress coping and emotional resilience, and that widespread
burnout was eliminated.
Stress and Depression

Significant decreases in stress, mood swings and depression
are seen in self-report surveys.

Perceived stress is reduced
in spite of the stressful work environment. Depression
scores are massively reduced after 2 weeks with further
reductions across the period.

Bar-On Emotional Intelligence measures confirm dramatic
increases in stress management and stress tolerance.
Positivity
Positivity is an important new positive psychology measure
of the ratio of positive to negatively perceived events in
one's life.

A dramatic increase in positivity was seen after two weeks
with increases sustained over the six month period.
Mindfulness
Significant increases in mindfulness were seen after just
two weeks that were sustained over the measurement period.

Well Being
Continuing increases in meaning in life were
measured over the six month period and significant
increases in satisfaction with life were measured.

Emotional Intelligence
Emotional intelligence (EQ) is our ability to
recognize emotions in ourselves and others and to manage
them intelligently.
This skill is regarded as the most important
indicator of success in all aspects of life.

Dramatic increases in total EQ and all EQ
subscales were seen after two months, with further increases
after six months.
Relationships
Before JOYGYM™ participants reported high
degrees of relationship problems in their personal life and
at work.
Dramatic decreases in personal and work
relationship problems were reported weeks after program
commencement.

Significant increases in intrapersonal and
interpersonal emotional intelligences explain these results.

Self report surveys confirm dramatic
reductions in family/home problems.

Physical Health
Dramatic reductions in body pain, headaches
and migraines and digestive problems were seen after two
weeks, and dramatic decreases in sleep problems after two
months.

Participants who were under medication for
chronic depression, hypertension and diabetes were all
removed from medication by their medical practitioners as
they ceased to suffer from these conditions.
Workplace Changes
In addition to massive increases in productivity
(56%) and reductions in absenteeism (52%),
participants and management reported:
Cooperation & Teamwork: Dramatic increases in trust,
cooperation, working to common purpose, voluntary
assistance, and voluntary training and sharing of knowledge.
General Happiness: A new happy workplace atmosphere
replaced the previous serious and gloomy mood. This was
noted and had a positive effect on relations with patients,
suppliers and all who came into contact with the
organization.
Productivity
Increases of 25% in productivity due to
happiness were documented by Professor A Oswald in an
important UK study.

Home visits by nursing sisters in this group
increases by a dramatic 56% (previous three month average
compared to first three months of the JOYGYM™ program).
These changes are explained by self report
survey measures that show that before the program
participants were feeling worried 14 days, feeling sick 7
days, feeling stressed 6 days, and feeling depressed 5 days
in every twenty day work month.
Massive reduction in these problems are seen
after two weeks and sustained across the six month period. |
